Tunes in my head: Generals and Majors by XTC
Atmosphere: Nuuuuuuu.
You kids all SUCK at short notice stuff.
(turns out my ideal plan has gone from three blonde sexy Europeans staying the night to one COMING.)
Ah well.
How exactly does infatuation work?
Is it because we see ourselves happy with the person?
Or is it just because they're cute?
Or is it out of a need to make the person smile?
"Save the world complex."

It happens because you have a biological imperative to keep the species going. The brain dispenses delicious chemicals to bribe you (by making you feel good) into doing this. And of course, you feel bad when such goals are not attained - the intent of this is presumably to try and whip you into pursuing that goal.
On a similar note, I saw a presentation on those TED talk things about why we see things (http://www.ted.com/)as cute/delicious/etc, and essentially it's the same reason as above - to persuade you to act in a particular way (iirc, the talk specifically mentioned babies - to encourage you to look after them, you are wired in the brain to perceive them as cute etc).
Ah, I just found the link:

You (EVERYONE!) should watch it, it's very interesting.
HAHAHAHA
sorry.. that first bit just made me laugh.
Thanks, mate. Really needed it. Not that I'm trying to put you down, I just felt I needed a laugh, and that made my day.
